Job Summary

The British High Commission (BHC) in Dar es Salaam is seeking a dynamic and highly organized Visits & Events Officer to oversee the professional planning and execution of high-profile events and visits. The role involves ensuring the smooth coordination of senior official and ministerial visits, managing residence operations, and supporting cross-cutting initiatives across the mission.

This position requires an energetic, self-motivated individual with strong leadership, time management, and communication skills. The ideal candidate must be able to multitask, work under pressure, and liaise effectively with various stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities

1. Events Management (40%)

  • Lead the planning, organization, and execution of UK government events in Dar es Salaam and Dodoma.
  • Coordinate with estates, communications, residence, and policy teams, as well as external stakeholders.
  • Manage event budgets and ensure compliance with FCDO financial regulations.
  • Act as the events manager for major gatherings, including the Kingโ€™s Birthday Party.

2. Senior Official & Ministerial Visits Coordination (20%)

  • Serve as the primary logistics coordinator for all high-level visits.
  • Schedule meetings, prepare itineraries, and manage transportation and security logistics.
  • Liaise with the UK government and local authorities to facilitate smooth visits.

3. Residence Operations & Financial Compliance (30%)

  • Supervise a team of four responsible for residence management.
  • Oversee financial controls, stock and store management, and procurement of supplies.
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety standards at the residence.

4. Cross-Cutting Support (10%)

  • Provide administrative support as needed, including PA cover for senior leadership.
  • Participate in additional projects as required by the High Commission.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in event planning and hospitality management, particularly in organizing medium to large-scale events.
  • Strong budget management skills, handling budgets exceeding $20,000.
  • Proven ability to lead a team (minimum of two people).
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience managing high-profile visits (e.g., government ministers, senior officials, or dignitaries).
  • Knowledge of estates management.
  • Experience working in an international organization.
