Job Summary
Absa Bank is seeking a Treasury Middle Office Analyst to support financial reporting, risk control, and compliance within the Treasury and Global Markets unit. The role involves ensuring adherence to accounting policies (IAS39 / IFRS 9), enhancing risk monitoring systems, and facilitating reconciliation processes. The analyst will also provide essential financial insights to various departments, including Treasury Front Office and Finance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Control (30%)
- Produce Profit and Loss (PnL) statements for Global Markets and Treasury.
- Perform daily reconciliations, including FOBO, BOBO, cash wash, internal funding, and inter-desk lines.
- Develop and implement system automation solutions to improve risk monitoring.
- Support the reduction of operational risk in Treasury Front and Back Office.
- Manage change initiatives that impact the Middle Office function.
Compliance & Risk Management (25%)
- Ensure compliance with Absa Group requirements, accounting policies, and IFRS standards.
- Oversee TRC/MRCC reporting and maintain accurate meeting minutes.
- Provide risk and market activity reports to the Global Markets team.
- Identify, monitor, and report Treasury and CIB Market risks, ensuring proper control measures are in place.
- Maintain a strong control environment by implementing key governance frameworks.
Personal Development & Team Leadership (15%)
- Train and develop the Middle Office team to strengthen technical knowledge and product control functions.
- Foster a culture of high standards and continuous learning.
- Participate in industry networks to stay updated on best practices.
Product Control & Treasury Oversight (30%)
- Oversee Treasury operations, including FX positions, Front/Back Office PnL reconciliation, and fixed-income products.
- Standardize and refine existing procedures to enhance Middle Office functions.
- Assess and update Pricing, MVA, and Rate Reasonability Policies for Treasury products.
- Ensure proper governance in financial reporting and control.
Required Qualifications
Requirement | Details |

Certifications | ACI, CPA (added advantage) |
Experience | Minimum 3 years in Treasury, Accounting, or Finance roles |
Technical Skills | Knowledge of financial reporting, risk management, and Treasury/Global Markets products (FX, MM, Derivatives, Fixed Income) |
Other Skills | Strong analytical abilities, commercial awareness, decision-making, team collaboration, and proficiency in Microsoft Office |
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in multinational banking environments with matrix reporting.
- Awareness of international financial regulations and Treasury risk principles.
