About the Extractives Global Unit (IEEXI)
IEEXI leads World Bank activities in mining, providing policy and technical support to countries. The unit manages global programs like Climate Smart Mining (CSM), RISE, and Just Transitions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead policy dialogue and strategic planning in mineral sector governance
  • Support World Bank mining projects in Southern and Eastern Africa (e.g., Tanzania, Zambia, DRC)
  • Advise on fiscal, institutional, and regulatory frameworks for mineral development
  • Promote sustainable and resilient mineral value chains
  • Partner with stakeholders and industry for project implementation
  • Mentor junior staff and support cross-sector collaboration
  • Represent the Bank in stakeholder forums and maintain country office relationships

Selection Criteria

  • Master’s degree or higher in relevant fields (e.g., mining engineering, geology, mineral economics)
  • Minimum 8 years international experience in mining sector development (private or public sector)
  • Deep knowledge in mining regulatory frameworks, sustainability, governance, and mine closure
  • Experience in project planning, negotiations, and delivering results
  • Knowledge of climate-smart mining, mineral value chain decarbonization, and supply chain resilience
  • Strong communication skills in English or French (Kiswahili or Portuguese a plus)
  • Ability to manage teams, work in multicultural settings, and build partnerships
