Responsibilities:
- Design optimal blast patterns, plan, and implement drilling and blasting operations to achieve production targets, maximize ore recovery, and minimize environmental impact and risks.
- Collaborate with technical experts to optimize drilling and blasting operations.
- Coordinate and communicate drill and blast plans with production, geology, and planning teams.
- Provide leadership to engineers, graduates, and operations staff in drill and blast design.
- Ensure all blasting activities adhere to safety and environmental regulations.
- Monitor and analyze drill and blast performance, making recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Work closely with production teams to ensure seamless execution of drill and blast activities.
- Manage relationships with external contractors and suppliers to optimize drill and blast operations.
- Conduct technical evaluations of explosives and blasting techniques.
- Manage budget preparation and cost management control.
- Ensure quality of work through ongoing leadership, monitoring, and audit processes.
- Manage the availability of drill stock and consumables to keep mining operations running efficiently.
- Demonstrate visible safety leadership to the team and adhere to Barrick’s DNA and safety protocols.
- Identify and report possible hazards on the route and inside workplaces during shifts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering.
- Valid blasting certificate as per Tanzanian regulations.
- Team player, result-oriented, with Mines Health & Safety Act awareness.
- Ability to train less experienced staff members.
- Experience with UG Mining Methods and Systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Possess a valid Tanzania driving license.
Experience & Competencies Needed:
- 5 years of progressive UG experience in the mining industry, including UG drilling and blasting activities.
- Experience in coordinating and managing a sizable drill fleet in challenging conditions.
- Experience as a Drill & Blast coordinator in UG environments.
- Understanding of blast management practices, including design, vibration, noise & fume monitoring, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to work autonomously with limited supervision and manage time effectively.
- Strong communication skills in English (both written and verbal).
- Ability to perform hazard identification and risk assessment.
