Job Overview
NBC Bank is the oldest serving bank in Tanzania with over five decades of experience offering retail, business, corporate and investment banking, along with wealth management products and services. We are seeking a Relationship Officer for Transaction Banking to acquire and manage relationships with Business Banking customers through a proactive and consultative approach in line with NBC policies and procedures.
Job Summary
- Acquire and manage relationships with Business Banking customers using a customer-focused approach to provide holistic financial solutions for both basic and complex needs.
- Deliver a differentiated customer experience by maintaining regular contact with customers to ensure overall satisfaction.
- Support the migration of business banking customers to digital channels such as NBC Connect, Edu Connect, NBC Lipa Kiganjani, Merchant Services, e-commerce, Saccoss, SADAKA solution, etc.
Sales and Relationship Management (40%)
- Maximize client profitability within agreed targets (liabilities and non-interest revenue) by identifying, building, and deepening relationships to gain incremental wallet share through a wide range of products and services.
- Provide value-added engagement and conduct regular face-to-face meetings with clearly defined objectives.
- Recognize and understand clients’ business cycles and financial needs with support from product specialists, proactively offering holistic financial solutions.
- Create and maintain a pipeline of business opportunities and actively pursue referrals to grow the liabilities portfolio.
- Develop and maintain a Customer Relationship Management Plan for Top 10 merchant clients and Top 10 non-borrowing clients.
- Maintain accurate records of all client interactions using call reports.
Customer Service (20%)
- Proactively and professionally manage client experience by providing appropriate product and service information.
- Respond promptly to customer complaints and provide regular feedback on unresolved issues.
- Keep accurate records of discussions and correspondences with clients.
- Coordinate client relationship activities with other bank departments.
- Educate customers about the bank’s products, services, and procedures.
- Utilize client feedback to improve product and service offerings.
Compliance and Risk Management (20%)
- Ensure compliance with KYC, AML, and Financial Sanctions policies.
- Review client portfolios monthly and ensure all required documentation (KYC, AML, Sanctions) is up to date; escalate any unresolved matters.
- Verify and sign off on digital channel applications (NBC Connect, Edu Connect, NBC Lipa Kiganjani, Merchant Services, e-commerce, Saccoss, SADAKA solution).
- Identify potential problem accounts and communicate risk mitigation strategies by monitoring client transactions and accessing reports.
- Stay informed on industry developments and emerging risks or opportunities.
Team and Networking (10%)
- Attend daily branch meetings and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Maintain ongoing dialogue and information exchange with other departments such as Retail and Corporate Credit, Corporate Banking, and Retail Banking.
- Participate in local functions, community, governmental, and business development activities.
- Develop contacts with product specialists in Corporate Banking, Treasury, and Retail Banking.
- Provide feedback on cross-functional team performance.
Self-Development (10%)
- Keep abreast of all policy, procedure, and circular updates.
- Engage in self-development activities aligned with career growth.
- Complete all required compliance training.
Education and Experience Required
- Degree in Business, Accounting, or ICT.
- 1-2 years of banking experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

- Proficiency in PC applications and Microsoft Office.
- Proven ability to develop and implement sales plans.
- Clear understanding of credit processes and procedures.
