To reinforce our Inclusive Eye Health initiatives, we are looking for a Regional Advisor Inclusive Eye Health in one of our Programme Countries in Africa East and South (Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, or Uganda). This is a 37.5 hours per week position, with contractual conditions based on the respective country. Expatriation is not intended.


Responsibilities

  • Ensure high-quality clinical work in eye care programmes in the region.
  • Promote and champion the objectives and strategies of the Inclusive Health initiative.
  • Support the development of new & existing eye health proposals, concept notes, and multi-year plans.
  • Monitor and follow up on projects individually or as part of a team.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Inclusive Health Programmes for regional programme alignment.
  • Evaluate and recommend project budget applications as per CBM guidelines.
  • Represent CBM in government, NGO, and donor engagements, building networks and alliances.
  • Mentor and build the capacity of eye care program staff across various countries.
  • Support donor and professional visits to eye care projects.
  • Participate in regular partner and project assessments to ensure quality service delivery.
  • Contribute to the development of regional and country-specific eye care strategies.
  • Work with the global Low Vision Advisor to strengthen low vision services.
  • Provide training and capacity development to partners and staff as needed.

Qualifications

  • Professional qualification in Ophthalmology with 15+ years of experience in the field.
  • Experience in leadership roles and an advanced degree in public health ophthalmology or a relevant field is an advantage.
  • Background in development cooperation with experience in project cycle management and participatory approaches.
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience working in a developing country.
  • Strong understanding of disability-inclusive development is desirable.
  • Knowledge of public health is an asset.
  • Experience in networking, advocacy, and influencing within global and regional networks.
  • Knowledge of key stakeholders in eye health within the region.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
  • Previous experience in operational research, training, and coaching.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).
  • Identification with Christian values and CBM’s mission.
