Job Summary
BRELA is seeking a highly qualified Patents Section Manager to oversee the administration of the Patents Act and related regulations. The selected candidate will provide expert advice on patents, manage applications and compliance, and collaborate with national and international stakeholders to promote innovation and intellectual property protection in Tanzania.
Key Responsibilities
Patent Administration & Compliance
- Oversee the administration of the Patents Act (Cap 217) R.E. 2002 and its regulations.
- Ensure compliance with post-grant requirements and enforce intellectual property rights.
- Manage patent records and ensure public access to information.
Legal & Policy Advisory
- Advise the Director of Industrial Property (Deputy Registrar) on patent-related matters.
- Recommend amendments to patent laws and regulations.
- Review and approve national, regional, and international patent applications.
Stakeholder Engagement & International Collaboration
- Administer international patent projects and communications.
- Work closely with COSTECH, research institutions, and universities to promote innovation.
- Represent Tanzania in international patent forums and ensure compliance with commitments.
Public Awareness & Training
- Develop and implement awareness programs to educate the public on patent procedures.
- Promote patent applications and protection of intellectual property rights in Tanzania.
Other Duties
- Perform any additional tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.
Required Qualifications

| Education | Master’s degree in Economics, Law, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Statistics, International Trade, Economics and Finance, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Business Administration, or Commerce in Marketing, Finance, or Accountancy. The Master’s degree must be related to the Bachelor’s degree. |
| Experience | Minimum of 8 years of experience in a related field, with at least senior-level responsibilities. |
| Skills | Strong knowledge of patent laws, intellectual property management, legal compliance, research collaboration, and international patent frameworks. |
Remuneration
Salary as per BRELA Salary Scale.
