Sotta Mining Corporation Limited (SMCL) is a Joint Venture Company between Nyanzaga Mining Company Limited and the Government of Tanzania.
1. Tax and Compliance Officer (1 position)
Position Purpose:
The Tax and Compliance Officer will manage tax obligations, coordinate tax audits, and liaise with government authorities. This role requires a proactive individual with expertise in tax laws and regulations to contribute to strategic financial decisions.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Oversee compliance with all applicable tax laws, including direct and indirect taxes.
- Report on tax-related matters to the CFO and Group Tax Manager.
- Advise and implement changes in tax legislation.
- Liaise with the Tanzania Revenue Authority and other government bodies.
- Coordinate and manage tax audits and verifications.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of all tax returns.
- Perform reconciliation of tax-related accounts and organize withholding tax certificates.
- Prepare monthly and annual tax workings for financial reporting and tax returns.
- Manage VAT refunds and ensure fiscal incentives and customs compliance.
- Maintain internal controls and document procedures relating to taxation.
Qualification and Competence Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Taxation, Accounting and Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) by NBAA Tanzania or ACCA.
- Minimum of five years of experience, including two years in a supervisory role.
- Experience in a similar tax role within a big four auditing firm or mining industry for at least three years.
Roster: 5 days on, 2 days off
Duty Station: Dar es Salaam
2. Financial Accountant (1 position)
Position Purpose:
The Financial Accountant will oversee financial accounting, reporting, internal controls, and statutory audits. This role requires a proactive individual with expertise in regulatory, legal, and IFRS requirements, contributing to strategic financial decisions.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, legal, IFRS, and group standards.
- Maintain and develop an internal controls system, ensuring professional standards are maintained.
- Implement reporting requirement changes according to regulatory and IFRS standards.
- Provide transactional consultation services to optimize investment returns and minimize risks.
- Report on budget/actual variances to the Group.
Financial Accounting
- Prepare monthly financial reports in accordance with the company’s standards.
- Timely preparation of annual financial statements as per IFRS.
- Handle internal and external audit processes and implement audit recommendations.
Internal Controls
- Institute and oversee an effective system of internal controls.
- Continuously check compliance levels and report weaknesses to the CFO.
Qualification and Competence Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) by NBAA Tanzania.
- Seven years of experience, with at least three in a supervisory role.
- Experience in handling complex statutory audits as a client or conducting audits as an auditor.
Roster: 5 days on, 2 days off
Duty Station: Dar es Salaam
