About the Extractives Global Unit (IEEXI):
IEEXI is responsible for designing and implementing World Bank operations and knowledge activities related to the mining sector. It leads major global programs such as Climate Smart Mining and Resilient and Inclusive Supply Chain Enhancement (RISE).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical and policy advice on mining-related governance and investment frameworks
  • Contribute to operational work and policy dialogue across mineral sector issues
  • Support mining operations in countries like Zambia, Tanzania, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Burundi, and DRC
  • Contribute to the development of mining projects including climate-smart and decarbonized approaches
  • Partner with other World Bank Group institutions, NGOs, and governments
  • Maintain effective communication with Country Management Units and stakeholders

Selection Criteria:

  • Master’s degree in mining-related discipline
  • At least 5 years of international experience in mining development, policy, and investment
  • Strong knowledge in mineral regulations, governance, mine closure, and ESG principles
  • Experience in mining sector engagement in Africa
  • Strategic problem-solving, work planning, and team coordination skills
  • Understanding of climate-smart mining and resilience in mineral supply chains
  • Ability to build partnerships with government, industry, and communities
  • Excellent communication skills in English and/or French; Kiswahili or Portuguese an advantage
