Job Summary
Aga Khan University (AKU) is seeking a Finance Coordinator to manage financial operations, grant oversight, and budget planning for its Tanzania projects. This role involves working closely with Deans, Directors, and administrative teams to ensure financial compliance, reporting accuracy, and efficient resource management.
The Finance Coordinator will oversee grants management, accounts payable, payroll processing, and financial planning while ensuring adherence to IAS, IFRS, and institutional policies.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Planning & Budgeting
- Lead the preparation of monthly funding requests to meet working capital needs.
- Develop and manage budgets, multi-year financial forecasts, and management reports.
- Assist in financial planning for grant proposals and new research initiatives.
- Conduct variance analysis and monitor financial performance.
2. Grants & Compliance Management
- Oversee the Grants Section within Finance functions.
- Review financial plans for new research and bilateral grants.
- Ensure financial compliance with donor agreements and regulatory requirements.
- Lead reviews of grant proposals from financial and compliance perspectives.
3. Accounting & Treasury Management
- Supervise accounts payable, treasury operations, and financial record-keeping.
- Ensure compliance with statutory payments (PAYE, WHT, NSSF, WCF, VAT).
- Monitor financial integrity through accruals, reconciliations, and cash flow management.
- Oversee payroll processing and ensure accurate staff payments.
4. Financial Reporting & Audits
- Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Collaborate with external auditors and regional finance teams during audits.
- Implement financial controls to ensure efficiency, accountability, and integrity.
5. Strategic & Decision Support
- Provide financial insights to Deans, Directors, and management teams.
- Support decision-making through feasibility studies, financial analysis, and forecasts.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Certified Public Accountant (CPA – Tanzania) with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in treasury and general accounting roles.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, banking operations, and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in ERP Financial Systems and MS Office (Excel, Word).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
