Senior Programme Officer Vacancy at HAKIARDHI: An Exciting Opportunity for Tanzanian Professionals
The Land Rights Research and Resources Institute (LARRRI/HAKIARDHI) is a leading non-governmental organization dedicated to advancing land rights and promoting social justice in Tanzania. Established in 1994 and operating under the NGOs Act of 2002, HAKIARDHI focuses on enhancing land tenure systems for rural small-scale producers, including peasants, pastoralists, and other marginalized groups.
As part of its ongoing commitment to land rights, gender equality, and climate change adaptation, HAKIARDHI is seeking a dynamic and qualified Tanzanian to fill the position of Senior Programme Officer. This role is integral to the successful implementation and coordination of various programs across 22 districts in Tanzania, including Kilosa, Kiteto, and Mufindi.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Oversight: Manage activities under the Knowledge Generation and Dissemination and Public Engagement Units. Provide strategic advice to the Executive Director to align with the Institute’s objectives.
- Advocacy Strategy: Develop and implement advocacy strategies to achieve impactful outcomes. Draft policies, position papers, and strategic briefs for stakeholder engagement.
- Networking and Collaboration: Identify and build partnerships with like-minded organizations to strengthen advocacy efforts. Facilitate reflective learning forums and collaborative projects on land rights, gender equality, and climate change.
- Training and Development: Plan and conduct training programs for the Institute and external organizations. Prepare management documents, progress reports, and policy briefs.
- Community Support: Provide pro bono legal aid and counseling to small-scale producers. Address community needs and contribute to disseminating best practices and lessons learned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Law or Social Sciences; Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice is advantageous.
- Experience: At least 5 years of experience in policy analysis, lobbying, and advocacy related to land, natural resources, gender, and climate change. Experience working with civil society organizations and policy makers is essential.
- Skills: Proficiency in Kiswahili and English, excellent report-writing and communication abilities, and strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). A firm belief in teamwork, gender equality, and participatory approaches is crucial.
