Job Summary
BRELA is seeking a highly experienced Deputy Registrar – Licensing to oversee and administer business and industrial licensing processes in Tanzania. The role involves supervising licensing operations, advising investors, coordinating regulatory compliance, and ensuring seamless licensing procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Licensing Administration
- Administer the National Industries (Licensing and Registration) Act No. 10 of 1967 and the Business Licensing Act of 1972.
- Supervise and oversee all activities within the Directorate of Licensing.
- Maintain and update the national register of issued licenses.
- Review, approve, suspend, revoke, or cancel industrial and business licenses when necessary.
Regulatory Compliance & Advisory
- Provide expert advice on industrial and business licensing matters.
- Approve feasibility studies submitted by prospective investors.
- Ensure compliance with licensing regulations by coordinating with Regional and District Trade Offices and Local Government Authorities.
- Liaise with other regulatory institutions on licensing matters and policy implementation.
Strategic Planning & Reporting
- Oversee the preparation of strategic plans, annual budgets, and operational plans for the Directorate.
- Coordinate the preparation and submission of performance reports to relevant authorities.
- Improve the efficiency of licensing processes through online platforms.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Guide and provide technical advice to potential investors on licensing procedures.
- Coordinate the preparation of recommendations for the Industrial Licensing Board.
- Collaborate with public and private institutions to streamline business licensing in Tanzania.
Required Qualifications
Requirement | Details |

Education | Master’s degree in Economics, Law, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Statistics, International Trade, Economics & Finance, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, or Business Administration |
Experience | Minimum of 8 years in a related field, with at least a Senior Level position |
Technical Skills | Strong knowledge of business and industrial licensing laws, regulatory compliance, and investment feasibility assessment |
Soft Skills | Leadership, stakeholder engagement, strategic planning, and policy implementation |
Remuneration
Salary will be provided as per BRELA Salary Scale.
