Job Summary
Maersk, a global leader in logistics and shipping, is seeking a Container Freight Station (CFS) Supervisor to oversee daily operations at its Inland Services facility in Tanzania. This role requires a highly organized and proactive individual with experience in terminal operations, cargo handling, and customer service.
The CFS Supervisor will be responsible for managing yard operations, ensuring safety compliance, maintaining operational efficiency, and driving customer satisfaction. The position requires strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. CFS Operations & Yard Management
- Oversee day-to-day Container Freight Station (CFS) operations and ensure smooth cargo handling.
- Manage yard operations, ensuring proper accommodation of cargo, empty containers, and customs clearance.
- Ensure the optimal utilization of equipment such as reach stackers, forklifts, and other assets.
- Monitor container stock within 48 hours and conduct 10-day yard stock reconciliations.
- Ensure timely data entry and updates in LOGSTAR / IFS systems.
2. Customer Service & Stakeholder Engagement
- Drive a customer-centric approach by ensuring consistent, high-quality service.
- Manage internal and external stakeholders, including customs officials and transport vendors.
- Pursue volume targets and customer retention strategies.
3. Safety, Compliance & Performance Monitoring
- Implement Maersk’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) policies.
- Conduct risk assessments and enforce safety regulations within the CFS.
- Ensure all operational SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) are followed and updated.
- Report any incidents or deviations to the Site Manager for immediate resolution.
4. Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise, train, and develop staff to improve operational efficiency.
- Conduct performance appraisals and manage leave approvals for direct reports.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and high performance.
- Lead daily and weekly operational meetings to track performance and address challenges.
5. Process Improvement & Reporting
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports to relevant stakeholders.
- Monitor and optimize workflow efficiency to enhance terminal operations.
- Track and analyze KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) to improve service delivery.
- Work closely with vendors and ensure compliance with operational SOPs.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field (preferred).
- Experience:
- Minimum 5+ years in terminal operations, cargo handling, and freight management.
- Strong background in customs clearance procedures and CFS operations.
- Experience in logistics, transportation, and warehouse management.
- Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Strong team leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office, logistics software, and reporting tools.
