About the Mechanism:
The IRMCT was established by the United Nations Security Council in 2010 to handle essential functions of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). With branches in The Hague and Arusha, the Mechanism ensures the continuation of these tribunals’ important work, including administrative, legal, policy, and diplomatic support.
Role and Responsibilities:
As a Legal Intern in the OR at the Arusha branch, you will:
- Provide legal, policy, and diplomatic support to the Registrar.
- Assist in various OR functions, including administrative services and support to other Registry sections.
- Engage in projects related to Mechanism Archives, Judicial Operations, Records section, and Witness Support and Protection Unit.
While primarily based in the OR, you might also support other areas within the Registry as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
To qualify for this internship, you must:
- Be a law student in your final year of undergraduate studies or enrolled in a graduate program (Master’s level or higher).
- Be computer literate in standard software applications.
- Fluency in English and French (both oral and written) is required.
Previous legal experience is desirable but not mandatory.
