Job Summary

Uwezo Tanzania is seeking an experienced Advocacy and Government Liaison Specialist to support the organization’s national and sub-national advocacy efforts with government entities and policymakers. The ideal candidate will assist in shaping Uwezo’s advocacy campaigns, influence government policies, and build strong relationships with key government stakeholders. This position requires a strategic communicator who can effectively convey Uwezo’s mission and work within education, health, and community empowerment.


Key Responsibilities

Advocacy & Campaign Development

  • Develop and execute advocacy campaigns aimed at influencing government policies, legislation, and regulations.
  • Prepare briefing materials, fact sheets, and position papers for key government agencies.
  • Represent Uwezo at public meetings and advocacy events related to education, health, and community development.

Government Relations

  • Act as the liaison between Uwezo and government agencies, elected officials, and policymakers.
  • Build and maintain relationships with MPs, local councilors, and government departments.
  • Advocate for Uwezo’s policy positions and initiatives to relevant government representatives.

Policy & Communication Materials

  • Develop and distribute communication materials such as policy briefs, newsletters, press releases, and other advocacy documents.
  • Prepare presentations for meetings with policymakers and stakeholders.
  • Work with the Communications Lead to keep Uwezo’s website and social media platforms engaging and up-to-date.

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Monitor government policies and legislative changes related to education, health, nutrition, science & technology, and community empowerment.
  • Write reports and circulate them to relevant stakeholders, ensuring communication to affected partners.
  • Organize and collect data for compliance with government policies and legislation.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with Uwezo’s Executive Director and Communications Lead to prepare advocacy materials and presentations.
  • Consult with external partners, private organizations, and contractors as necessary to advance Uwezo’s advocacy goals.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including data protection regulations (GDPR).

Required Qualifications

Requirement Details
Education Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Mass Communication, or a related field
Experience At least 3 years of relevant experience in government communications, policy engagement, and advocacy
Skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Kiswahili; keen attention to detail
Technical Knowledge Familiarity with traditional media, social media, and new communication technologies in East Africa
Soft Skills Strong teamwork, organizational, and analytical skills; flexible and resilient under pressure
Additional Knowledge Awareness of child protection and safeguarding principles, and good understanding of development and education issues
