Job Summary
Compassion International is seeking a Senior Program Design Specialist – Safeguarding to provide leadership in safeguarding, with a focus on abuse prevention and response in child and youth development programs. The specialist will support national offices and collaborate across departments to develop and implement safeguarding policies, strategies, and interventions.
This role requires a passionate advocate for child protection, ensuring a culture of safety and compliance with best practices in safeguarding across Compassion’s global operations.

Key Responsibilities
1. Safeguarding & Child Protection Leadership
- Build and maintain expertise in safeguarding, staying informed on research and trends.
- Analyze best practices to create recommendations for Compassion’s policies.
- Develop policies, standards, and tools to promote safe program environments.
- Advocate for additional safeguarding policies where needed.
2. Program Development & Training
- Support the creation of safeguarding training for staff and volunteers.
- Lead awareness campaigns to promote a culture of child protection.
- Develop functional safeguarding strategies across different ministries.
3. Incident Response & Risk Management
- Support Red Alert (safeguarding) incidents and investigations.
- Provide emergency consultation and ensure accurate case documentation.
- Work with leadership to improve incident management systems.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Advocacy
- Engage with global leadership to advocate for stronger child protection policies.
- Network with external organizations and safeguarding forums.
- Integrate safeguarding principles into organizational processes and policies.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred) in:
- Psychology
- Social Work/Social Services
- Law
- International Development (Humanitarian Focus)
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 7 years in a safeguarding or child protection role.
- Fluent in English (Additional languages are a plus).
- Strong cross-cultural communication and advocacy skills.
- Ability to analyze complex risks and improve safeguarding processes.
- Proficiency in incident management systems and reporting tools.
- Flexibility in working across global time zones.
- Willingness to travel up to 20%.
