Blue Alliance is a non-profit organization working in partnership with governments to establish and manage Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). Our mission is to restore coral reef ecosystems while promoting sustainable economic development in local communities. By addressing the marine conservation financing gap, we support the development of Blue Economy businesses that contribute to reef conservation.
In collaboration with the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, we focus on environmental conservation, regulatory compliance, and fostering a sustainable marine-based economy.
To support our financial operations, we are seeking a Senior Accountant to oversee financial management, reporting, and compliance within the organization.
Job Summary
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing financial records, ensuring statutory compliance, and supporting budgeting and reporting processes. This role is critical in maintaining financial accuracy and supporting Blue Alliance’s conservation and economic development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Record-Keeping
- Record daily financial transactions in the general ledger.
- Reconcile bank statements and accounts payable/receivable balances.
- Maintain organized and accurate financial records.
- Support the head office team with monthly verifications and financial closing.
Financial Reporting
- Review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends and potential risks.
- Prepare financial reports and presentations for management.
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Develop and manage budgets for different departments.
- Forecast future financial requirements to support funding requests.
Statutory Compliance
- Prepare and file statutory obligations, including TRA, ZRA, and ZSSF.
- Stay updated on tax laws, levies, and other financial regulations applicable in Zanzibar.
Internal Controls
- Implement and monitor internal financial controls to safeguard the organization’s assets.
- Develop and enforce strategies to minimize fraud and financial errors.
Auditing and Compliance
- Assist with internal reviews and external audits by providing documentation and explanations.
- Ensure adherence to international accounting standards, including IPSAS and IFRS.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Requirement | Details |

Education | Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field |
Professional Certification | CPA, ACCA, or similar qualifications are an advantage |
Experience | Minimum of 5 years in accounting, finance, or auditing |
Technical Skills | Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, SAP) |
Excel Skills | Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel |
Soft Skills | Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills |
Compliance Knowledge | Familiarity with Zanzibar tax laws and financial regulations is an advantage |
