Responsibilities
- Report all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) issues via an incident report.
- Perform task risk assessments (JHA, FLRA).
- Ensure a healthy and safe working environment for all employees.
- Maintain and repair mechanical issues, perform diagnostics/fault finding, and conduct routine inspections on various underground machines.
- Coordinate activities in the unit and report back to the Mobile Maintenance Superintendent.
- Ensure that mobile equipment is maintained safely and cost-effectively.
- Observe and implement all Barrick safe work practices in the department of responsibility.
- Prepare and execute maintenance plans and schedules based on daily, weekly, and monthly mining and ore processing priorities.
- Supervise, train, develop, and nationalize the maintenance team.
- Produce end-of-month reports on maintenance performance against the plan.
- Ensure maintenance costs are kept within or below the assigned budget.
- Display a sense of urgency for timely repair and maintenance of mine equipment.
- Plan and complete all maintenance activities in a cost-effective manner with minimal disruption to ore processing and mining activities.
- Demonstrate a commitment to safe work practices by example, act immediately on unsafe acts, and monitor safety standards.
- Promote and foster proactive site safety behaviors, integrating safety into all work activities.
- Identify and rectify/report hazards using the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) process.
- Assist with accident/incident investigations and participate in the induction and training of new employees.
- Ensure that all employees under this role attend safety-related training and participate in the company’s safety initiatives.
Qualification Requirements
- A relevant trade qualification in Mechanical or a Technician Certificate from a recognized institution.
- A Mechanical Trade Certification is highly desired.
Experience and Competencies
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in mechanical fitting and mobile equipment maintenance, preferably in an artisanal context.
- Proven competencies in rebuilding and servicing underground mining mobile equipment.
- Strong safety background and the ability to drive a safe working environment and practices.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills; ability to interact with diverse cultures and levels.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and Outlook.
- Skilled in hazard identification and risk assessment.
- Valid driving ability.
