Job Purpose

The Fundraising Manager will be responsible for expanding Railway Children Africa’s income, developing fundraising strategies, managing donor relations, and leading efforts to secure funding from various sources. This is a great opportunity for an experienced professional to make a significant impact on the organization’s growth and sustainability.


Key Responsibilities

Managing the Fundraising Strategy and Donor Relations

  • Develop, implement, and oversee the fundraising strategy to achieve income targets.
  • Support the team in growing all relevant fundraising streams, focusing on corporate partnerships.
  • Maintain and expand relationships with donors, including trusts, foundations, and corporate sponsors.
  • Align fundraising proposals with donor priorities and program needs.
  • Ensure compliance with donor reporting requirements and maintain communication with key stakeholders.

Providing Leadership for Fundraising Activities

  • Train and guide the programme team on fundraising strategies.
  • Create a clear fundraising plan and ensure smooth implementation.
  • Promote effective communication within the organization regarding fundraising efforts.

Corporate Sponsorship Expansion

  • Develop and implement a corporate fundraising strategy to increase income.
  • Identify and secure corporate partners for Railway Children Africa.
  • Act as a spokesperson and represent the organization at external events.

Growing Income Streams

  • Research and develop new income generation strategies to ensure long-term financial sustainability.
  • Oversee donor management and ensure effective donor engagement.
  • Implement and evaluate new fundraising initiatives.

General Responsibilities

  • Adhere to Railway Children Africa’s policies and safeguarding procedures.
  • Travel to field operations when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Experience, Qualifications, and Skills

Essential Experience & Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of international donors such as USAID, CDC, EU, FCDO, and major foundations.
  • Experience in fundraising with a track record of meeting income targets.
  • Ability to write compelling funding proposals and reports.
  • Knowledge of trust fundraising, corporate partnerships, and institutional donors.
  • Experience working in NGOs or international development organizations.
  • Strong financial management and budget planning skills.

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and implement solutions.
  • Strong leadership and team coordination abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Fundraising, Business Development, Communications, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of child protection issues in Tanzania.
  • Previous experience in a similar role within the East African region.
