Job Summary

Uwezo Tanzania, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) focused on education and social development, is seeking a Research and Innovation Specialist. This role involves supporting the Research and Innovation Department in designing and implementing research activities, data collection, analysis, and producing comprehensive reports. The ideal candidate will have a background in research, strong leadership skills, and proficiency in various data collection and analysis tools.


Key Responsibilities

Research Development & Support

  • Develop and implement research tools for assessing literacy, numeracy, and other educational factors in children aged 4–16 years.
  • Assist in training and supervising field teams during data collection activities.
  • Monitor and ensure the integrity of data collection processes.
  • Translate and adapt research assessment tools to suit local contexts and objectives.

Data Collection & Analysis

  • Support the setup and management of mobile data collection tools, such as Kobo Collect and Google Forms.
  • Analyze collected data using SPSS, STATA, R, NVIVO, and other relevant software.
  • Produce research reports, field reports, and other documentation in accordance with organizational standards.

Team Leadership & Communication

  • Lead and guide a team through the research process, providing training and support.
  • Communicate effectively with Uwezo partners to ensure smooth program implementation.
  • Draft proposals, funding synopses, and contribute to grant applications.

Reporting & Program Management

  • Assist in the preparation of project reports, ensuring that all data is accurately reflected.
  • Support the development and maintenance of research-related databases.
  • Review financial and work reports submitted by team members and field staff.

Required Qualifications

Requirement Details
Education Degree in Social Sciences, Education, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
Experience At least 3 years of relevant experience in research, monitoring, evaluation, training, and community engagement.
Technical Skills Expertise in research tools, mobile data collection apps, data analysis software (SPSS, STATA, NVIVO, etc.), and Microsoft Office applications.
Languages Proficiency in both English and Swahili, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Additional Skills Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently, and attention to detail. Awareness of child protection and safeguarding principles.
