Job Summary

Trees for the Future (TREES) is looking for a highly motivated Project Officer to coordinate and implement the Simiyu Projects 1 and 2. The Project Officer will lead efforts to introduce and expand the Forest Garden Approach, a nature-based solution aimed at empowering farmers in sustainable agroforestry. This role involves managing farmer recruitment, training, and providing hands-on support to ensure the success of the projects, which aim to plant millions of trees and enhance local food systems.


Key Responsibilities

Project Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Coordinate the identification and documentation of potential areas for project expansion.
  • Mobilize farmers, organize them into groups, and identify Lead Farmers in line with TREES guidelines.
  • Sensitize farmers on the Simiyu Project requirements and ensure Free Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) before participation.

Farmer Training & Support

  • Organize and execute farmer training sessions according to TREES’ training program and framework.
  • Provide technical support to farmers and Lead Farmers, ensuring the effective implementation of Forest Gardens.
  • Mentor farmers and offer follow-up support to ensure continuous progress and adherence to project standards.

Monitoring, Reporting & Data Collection

  • Track and maintain records on farmer tree planting and other M&E activities.
  • Regularly report on the progress of activities to the Program Manager, adhering to project deadlines.
  • Ensure timely data collection and maintain financial documentation for submission to the Program Officer.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Supervise and mentor Assistant Project Officers (APOs) who support farmers in improving farming practices.
  • Collaborate with the Program Manager to develop weekly reports, work plans, and evaluate project activities.
  • Lead efforts to share lessons learned and best practices with counterparts across different countries.

Required Qualifications

Requirement Details
Education University Degree in Agriculture, Agroforestry, Environmental Science, or related field
Experience Minimum of 3 years in forestry, agroforestry, or related fields
Skills Strong communication, training, and facilitation skills; fluency in English, Swahili, and local languages
Technical Proficiency Proficient in MS Office applications and smartphone apps
Other Valid motorcycle license with experience in off-road riding
