Join DRC as a Child Protection Officer-Psychologist: Make a Difference in Child Welfare
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), an esteemed international non-governmental organization, is on a mission to support and advocate for refugees and internally displaced people. As part of their Burundian Refugee Response, DRC has been actively involved in various humanitarian efforts across Tanzania since 2015. With ongoing projects in Nduta and Nyarugusu refugee camps, DRC continues to address critical needs in camp management, protection, livelihoods, and environmental sustainability.
About the Role
DRC is seeking a skilled Child Protection Officer-Psychologist to join their team. This position is crucial in ensuring the emotional and social well-being of children within DRC’s Emergency Responses in the Kigoma Region. The successful candidate will work closely with child protection teams, including case management and psychosocial support (PSS), to deliver structured support services to refugee children. Additionally, the role involves training staff on PSS and psychological first aid.

Key Responsibilities
- Technical Support: Provide ongoing assistance to staff implementing PSS activities in Child-Friendly Spaces and within the community.
- Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct psycho-social assessments, risk evaluations, and psychometric testing as required.
- Capacity Building: Facilitate training sessions for social workers and partners on PSS and psychological first aid.
- Resource Development: Identify and recommend online courses and develop tools to measure PSS outcomes.
- Collaboration: Work with local authorities and organizations to ensure comprehensive support for affected children and their families.
- Representation: Represent DRC in working groups and support the child protection team in addressing children’s psycho-social needs.
Experience and Competencies
- Experience: At least 3 years in a related field with a strong understanding of mental health and psycho-social support practices. Experience with refugees is an advantage.
- Skills: Excellent interpersonal and psycho-therapeutic skills, stress management, and confidentiality. Proficiency in computer applications and training abilities.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in psychology, preferably child or developmental psychology, counselling, or a related field.
- Languages: Fluent in English and Swahili; knowledge of Kirundi is an advantage.

- External: Local Government, community groups, NGOs, MoHA, and police.
