Job Summary

Absa Tanzania is seeking an experienced Head of SME & Enterprise and Supply Chain Development (ESD) to lead the strategic delivery of SME banking solutions. This role involves developing and managing SME customer value propositions, driving business growth, ensuring compliance with risk management frameworks, and overseeing a high-performing team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, implementing innovative financial solutions, and fostering strong relationships with SME clients and key stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities

1. Sales and Service (30%)

  • Drive portfolio growth by identifying new and existing SME customer opportunities.
  • Develop business strategies aligned with market trends and customer needs.
  • Monitor customer relationship development and service quality standards.
  • Oversee customer surveys and implement measures to improve satisfaction.
  • Ensure effective communication of banking products, pricing, and service expectations.
  • Address and resolve customer complaints effectively.

2. Business Management (40%)

  • Work closely with the SME Credit Team to assess and recommend credit applications.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of the SME sector in Tanzania.
  • Identify risks, implement mitigation strategies, and ensure compliance with banking regulations.
  • Develop industry-leading SME products and services.
  • Manage financial targets, sales performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead and implement business transformation initiatives.

3. Staff Management (30%)

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the SME banking team.
  • Identify team strengths and development areas, ensuring continuous professional growth.
  • Coach team members in customer relationship management and risk assessment.
  • Set and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for team members.
  • Foster a positive and high-performing work environment.

4. Risk and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Absa’s risk management framework.
  • Identify and mitigate risks within business processes.
  • Report risk incidents and proactively enhance the control environment.
  • Maintain strong regulatory engagement and adherence to banking policies.

Required Qualifications

Requirement Details
Education Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or a related field
Experience Minimum 10 years in financial services, including 5 years in client-facing banking roles and 3 years in senior management
Skills Strategic thinking, leadership, team management, communication, risk assessment, and adaptability
Competencies Business development, change management, decision-making, customer service excellence, and stakeholder engagement
