Job Overview

Medical Teams International is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance Department. This role involves supporting the implementation of internal controls for project-level transactions in accordance with IFRS, IPSAS, and Medical Teams’ Finance Manual, as well as donor requirements.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Verify all payment requisitions per Medical Teams checklist.
• Review receipts, expenditures, purchase orders, and disbursement orders for proper cost allocation and regulatory compliance.
• Maintain cash book and program vouchers for accountant verification before posting to the general ledger.
• Monitor petty cash expenditure and request replenishment as necessary.
• Support project financial report preparation by summarizing vouchers in line with Medical Teams policy.
• Provide technical support to non-finance staff on financial policies.
• Verify that the asset register matches physical assets in collaboration with the Logistics & Procurement Department.
• Participate in annual cash flow and budget preparation.
• Support safeguarding by promoting a safe environment and adhering to Medical Teams’ policies on sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment.

EDUCATION, LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or Commerce.
• CPA Certification or progress towards obtaining CPA is an advantage.

EXPERIENCE

• 2 years of experience in finance or accounting roles.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Basic knowledge of non-profit accounting and ERP systems.
• Skilled in financial procedures, ERP system use, and non-finance staff training.
• Fluent in English with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain high levels of accuracy, confidentiality, and ethical standards.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS

• Frequent use of office productivity machinery like computers, printers, etc.
• May be required to lift/move up to 50 kg and traverse rough terrain.

Work Environment

The work environment is generally quiet but may involve travel to remote areas with potential health risks, extreme weather, and basic living conditions.
