Key Purpose of the Role
The key purpose of this role is to load, unload and stack materials safely and efficiently while maintaining our inventory/materials, governance controls, customer service standards and to support production.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Effective Fleet Management:
- Conduct pre-trip inspections prior to each shift using the forklift inspection checklist
- Ensure that the forklift is operated, cleaned, and maintained in optimal condition
- Maintain fuel and fluid levels at accepted operating standards
Health, Safety and Environmental Standards:
- Comply with Department of Labour stacking exemptions
- Maintain 5S and site housekeeping standards
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment as per site standards
- Adhere to all relevant SOPs and GOPs
Stock Quality Management:
- Apply stock rotation principles (FEFO)
- Perform quality control checks on packaging
- Ensure compliance with inventory management policies
- Participate in shift handovers
- Perform accurate daily stock counts using handheld devices
- Resolve inventory discrepancies
Warehouse Operations:
- Check, load, and unload vehicles accurately
- Record returns prior to unloading
- Move stock efficiently to and from production lines
- Sign off bins to ensure inventory accuracy
Production Line Support:
- Communicate clearly with logistics and warehouse teams
- Complete documentation accurately
- Load empties and raw materials onto production lines
- Remove and stack finished products from lines
Key Competencies:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Self-management and adaptability
- Good numerical ability and computer literacy
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric / Grade 12 or 3-year Diploma in Logistics
- Valid forklift driver license
- Experience operating a double handler
- Digital device literacy for stock counts is an advantage
