Position Overview

UNU-IIGH seeks a Research Fellow to contribute to a new program on power and accountability in global health. The successful candidate will be based in Kuala Lumpur, enjoying a multicultural environment and opportunities for international collaboration. This role involves conducting and supporting research, synthesizing policy-relevant evidence, convening multi-stakeholder meetings, and representing the institute in various forums.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and support research activities.
  • Produce working papers and policy briefs.
  • Convene and facilitate multi-stakeholder meetings.
  • Represent UNU-IIGH in meetings and forums.
  • Contribute to the institute’s information, education, and communication activities.
  • Participate in routine management and administrative tasks.
  • Build research and policy-making capacity through training and knowledge products.
  • Supervise postdoctoral fellows, PhD students, junior researchers, and interns.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Director.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in public health or a relevant field, or an MD with a relevant Master’s degree.
  • At least seven years of professional experience in public health research, policy, or programming.
  • Familiarity with systematic approaches to searching and evaluating scientific literature.
  • Competence in both quantitative and qualitative research design, data analysis, and interpretation.
  • Experience in policy-relevant research and policy analysis.
  • Proven track record of writing peer-reviewed articles and policy briefs.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently.

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with gender-responsive research or programming.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary research projects.
  • Knowledge of global health governance structures and processes.
  • Expertise in implementation research and systems thinking approaches.
  • Experience working in low- and middle-income country settings.

Remuneration and Benefits

  • Annual net salary: $59,151 – $62,024.
  • Benefits: 30 days of annual leave and a health insurance scheme.
  • Note: UNU is not liable for any taxes on the remuneration; payment of such taxes is the responsibility of PSA holders.

Contract Details

  • Initial contract duration: 12 months (renewable based on performance and requirements).
  • PSA contract with UNU, with a maximum combined duration of six years.
  • Mandatory retirement age for PSA holders: 65 years.
