Introduction

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is the world’s largest dedicated multilateral climate fund, investing in impactful, innovative, and catalytic programs and projects in developing countries globally. By the end of 2023, GCF managed a portfolio of 243 projects across 129 countries, committing a total of USD 13.5 billion. With an additional USD 12.8 billion pledged for the new strategic and programming cycle from 2024-2027, GCF aims to grow into at least a USD 50 billion fund by 2030. The fund’s mission is to mobilize public and private sector financial flows for climate action, focusing on the most vulnerable populations and fostering innovative partnerships for profound impact.

Internship Assignment

The OGC Intern will provide operational and administrative support to the Office of the General Counsel. This role offers a valuable opportunity to learn and expand experience in both institutional matters (including public international law) and project matters (including international project finance in the public and private sectors).

Responsibilities

• Research and Analysis: Conduct research and analyze legal issues related to GCF’s administrative, corporate, institutional, and operational activities.
• Legal Documentation: Prepare high-quality first drafts of legal documentation in relevant legal fields.
• Knowledge Management: Collect information, data, and documentation, including from peer institutions, and assist in preparing knowledge management materials.
• Ad-hoc Legal Support: Perform various ad-hoc legal support tasks as needed.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Education: Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Master’s or Juris Doctor law program in public international law, financial law, environmental law, or other relevant fields.
• Experience: Experience in a law firm or in-house legal unit, and knowledge of public international law and international project finance is advantageous.
• Skills: Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook. Excellent written and presentation skills.
• Languages: Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of another United Nations language, especially French and/or Spanish, is an advantage.
