About FIG: The Financial Institution Group (FIG) is a key department within IFC, responsible for around 40% of IFC’s business volume and developmental impact. FIG operates in various sub-sectors, including Microfinance, SME, Gender, Climate, Insurance, Capital Markets, Housing, and Distressed Assets, delivering investment and advisory services globally. FIG focuses on financial inclusion, servicing the real economy, and mobilizing third-party resources to build efficient financial systems that promote economic growth and development.

Position Overview: FIG is seeking an Investment Analyst to join the Investment and Portfolio Team in Johannesburg. The role involves originating, managing, and monitoring IFC’s financial sector investments in Southern Africa.

Duties & Accountabilities:

  • Conduct market analysis and assess financial soundness of companies or project opportunities.
  • Perform financial statement analysis, financial modeling, and comparable company analysis.
  • Analyze debt pricing benchmarks and equity trading comparables.
  • Assess market conditions, gaps, and business opportunities using mapping methodology.
  • Coordinate data collection to evaluate financial, operational, development impact, and market information.
  • Prepare business documents and presentations, distilling and summarizing large amounts of information.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders, demonstrating active listening skills.

Selection Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a financial institution, particularly in investment projects.
  • Proficiency in developing complex financial models.
  • Strong interest in development finance and multicultural environments.
  • High motivation, ethical standards, and ability to work in multicultural teams.
  • Strong knowledge of financial institutions and markets.
  • Excellent analytical, conceptual, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English; French or Portuguese is desirable.
